Fly from Bole International Airport to Bahir Dar (about 1 hour). Check in at the hotel, then drive 35 KM to visit the Blue Nile Falls and the source of the Nile River. Return to Bahir Dar for lunch, then enjoy a boat trip to Lake Tana monasteries, visiting 2-3 depending on time.
After breakfast, drive to Gonder. On the way, visit the Awraamba community and Taragedam Monastery. Continue to Gonder, check into hotel, then visit the Royal Palace of King Fasiledes and Debre Berhan Monastery.
Drive to Debark (gate to Simien Mountains National Park) for about 100 KM. After collecting necessary permits, drive 32 KM to Sankaber and start trekking to see endemic Gelada baboons. Picnic lunch, trek to waterfall.
Trek about 8 KM through Ginbar, Gich, and Saha areas.
Trek through Emet Gogo and Enatye, arriving at Chenek after 8-10 hours of trekking.
Trek to Rasbuwhit, the second highest mountain in Ethiopia. Observe endemic birds, red jackals, and flora/fauna. Picnic lunch, continue trekking to Ambico.
Trek to the highest mountain in Simien Mountains National Park. Picnic stop, then trek to Janamora village to retrieve vehicle and drive to Debark.
Drive to Axum via Limalimo road along Simien Mountains. This drive takes approximately 8 hours with stops for photography.
Explore Axum's archeological sites: Stelae Park, Ezana Inscription, Queen of Sheba's Palace, Arch of the Covenant, Saint Mary of Zion Church, Axum Cultural Museum.
Drive to Yeha (moon temple, UNESCO site) and then to Abune Aregawi Monastery, dating back to the 6th century. Continue via Adigrat to Hawzen.
Visit Abune Yemata Church (6th century) with its amazing paintings and climb. Afternoon visit Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor churches.
Drive to Aberha Weatsbeha Rock Church (4th century) and then Wukro Rock Churches. Lunch at Wukro town, then drive to Mekelle.
Drive from Mekelle to Danakil Depression via Agulae-Berahle. Lunch and permissions at Berahle. Visit Lake Asa-Ale to see camel caravans and sunset photography.
Early morning visit to Dallol's colorful Sulphur geysers, salt mountains, and salt mining. Lunch at Berahle village, drive to Abala.
Drive to Erta Ale Volcano via Kusrawad. Game drive on the way to observe wildlife. Arrive at base camp, dinner, then 2-hour trek to volcano summit.
Morning hike to see Erta Ale sunrise. After breakfast, drive to Lake Afdera for swimming and hot spring bathing, then drive back to Mekelle for airport transfer.
Drive 480 KM to Lalibela (~10 hours) with stops for photography and Raya people. Lunch at Weldya on the way.
Visit the 11 Rock Churches of Lalibela, grouped into Earthly Jerusalem (6 churches) and Heavenly Jerusalem (5 churches).
Excursion to Asheten Mariam Church. Return to Lalibela, check out hotel, drive to Lalibela airport and fly to Addis Ababa.
